Panorama of Morning Glory Bridge, with people abseiling from the top

Instead we opted for a hike up a river valley to Morning Glory Natural Bridge which is 243 ft long and the third longest natural rock span in the USA (6th in the world). Landscape Arch which we saw on our hike in Arches is the longest in the USA at 290 ft and joint 2nd in the world. Pretty special to see these fantastic natural landforms.
The trail head is on a tributary into the Colorado River north of Moab and we had a delightful walk in dappled shade along the river, admiring the late spring flowers and seeing kids having a great time playing in the shallows, before turning to hike up a dry valley into a side canyon to the Arch. Some organised groups were abseiling off the top of the arch (one can access it from higher up the canyon, to avoid the climb) which was fun to watch as we ate our late fruit breakfast.
The hike back was warm and we were glad to have done most of the hike in the morning shade. Afternoon was spent catching up with chores and sorting out some of our kit for our forthcoming backpacking adventure. A nice relaxing day.
