The duck caught my fancy at our café stop in Riddes
The last time we visited Nendaz in the summer was for a week In August 2013 when we returned to the U.K. for our nephews wedding. Our bikes have been sitting in the cave since then and we were not sure what condition they would be in. Very pleasantly surprised that everything seeemd to be in working order, the tyres had not perished, the brakes still worked etc.
So after a few chores this morning, (how do we create so much dirty washing!) we decided to pop the bikes in the car, head down to the valley bottom and take the bikes for a spin along some county lanes between Approz and Riddes. The bikes ran very smoothly which was good as we were pushing into a headwind, fortunately it was downhill. After about 10km we reached Riddes and decided to look for a café before heading back. Found the perfect spot, a highlight of which was the duck whose wings went round in the wind!
Cycled back through apricot groves full of ripening fruit before heading down to the river and back to the car. One reason for a trip to the valley was to get some more bits for the flat, including a picnic table. We can now eat out on the balcony much more easily – or more importantly have somewhere to rest our tea cups. Very nice.
Have decided that tomorrow we will do something similar but with a longer loop built in to encompass Leyton and Saillon. Both could feel our muscles working today and so have decided we need to build up some cycling fitness before heading into the mountains on harder trails.
