View from Blue Cut RV Park
Got away nice and early. Had packed up the night before and decided that we would just get up and go, foregoing even our customary cup of tea! Instead I drove for the first stint to Circleville where we had a typical USA breakfast of pancakes eggs and bacon (yummy but not to be indulged in too often!) in a Butch Cassidy cafe. The town was the site of Cassidy’s boyhood home. Beautiful cowboy countryside, rolling meadows with hills covered in sage bushes bordering the valley.
After that short respite we drove hard to get to SLC for about 1.30. Fortunately the CA was not busy and we got seen by an engineer immediately. 10min later he fixed the problem, something to do with the connection behind the body work for the city water supply had got loose and all he needed to do was tighten it up! Pretty frustrating to have driven over 250 miles for this but at least it was fixed and we were back on our way
We were not sure where we would be staying that night. But as we got out of the city before rush hour decided to make our way to Soldiers Summit (high point in the road btn SLC and Price over which the railway line goes) so named because some soldiers died in a summer snowstorm at the pass. The railway pass is the 5th highest in the USA at 7477ft.
We still had a bit of a drive to get to price where we lucked out to stay at Blue Cut RV Park, which was in a stunning setting and the owner Michelle very friendly. She recommended that we visit 9 mile canyon to see the Native pictographs. Unfortunately this would have added 100 miles to our trip to Moab the next day and we would not have had time to explore as we had to pick up a rental car there. Hopefully a trip for another day.
